The first second of the wear — green, cold and just short of sour, the way a fruit tastes before it is ripe.

Dark and resinous under the fruit, the note that keeps the opening from reading as sweet.

Sunlit and slightly fermented — the warmth that carries the citrus further than it would travel alone.

Calabrian rind, pressed cold. It cuts the fruit and sets the edge the whole composition is built against.

Tar and smoke from the bark. The turn where GELO stops being fruit and becomes a chypre.

Picked at night, when the flower gives most. It rounds the smoke without softening it.

Cold resin and needle. The material that keeps the heart dry and stops it turning floral.

Damp forest floor. The oldest material here, and the one that makes the drydown read as a chypre at all.

Cured pods, not sugar. It warms the moss from underneath and keeps the base from going bitter.

Salt, skin and warmth. What is still there the next morning, on the shirt rather than on the wearer.
